The centre functions as both a professional clinic and a teaching environment, giving students hands-on experience in holistic health practices while serving the wider community. It provides new facilities for courses in Naturopathy, Clinical Nutrition, Western Herbal Medicine, Chinese Medicine, and Myotherapy. The fitout includes several classrooms, multipurpose meeting and tutorial spaces, multiple clinical consultation rooms, reception, two dispensaries, student breakout spaces, debriefing, meeting rooms and tea points, each space tailored for functionality and learning.
Venko worked with Burke & Wills to meet the construction completion target, ensuring the centre opened at the start of term in February 2025.
The Practice Wellbeing Centre positions Torrens University at the forefront of education, creating a new model for student-led learning that bridges campus and community.
The Practice Wellbeing Centre is a significant addition to Torrens University’s Flinders Street Campus. The new student-led clinic continues the university’s hands-on approach to learning and represents an innovative model for health education.
The first phase of Venko’s engagement was to undertake a feasibility study and strategic planning to integrate the Fitzroy campus facilities into the City campus. Across four floors, the strategy involved rationalising and amalgamating various teaching and staff spaces, using adaptive reuse to unlock potential and create value from the heritage building and existing fitout.
Venko’s design approach is both sympathetic to the heritage features of the campus and a modern clinic with soft hues and high ceilings. It reflects the current direction of the health sector, moving away from highly sterile environments towards spaces that embed wellbeing principles and encourage ease.
