Venko’s design features a soft palette, bright and engaging graphics and artwork and ensuring natural light filters throughout the space. Modular furniture and adaptable layouts allow the spaces to be reconfigured to meet the evolving needs of the clinic. The variety of space typologies include: health assessment, clinical and non-clinical spaces, reception, waiting spaces, facilities for children, consulting rooms, family therapy rooms, kitchenette, staff spaces and security access planning & control.

Our primary design objectives were to integrate elements of home to create a comforting and familiar environment, facilitate open communication between patients and healthcare professionals, and design versatile spaces that accommodate a variety of therapeutic activities and needs.

In partnership with Harris HMC, Venko designed and delivered the new Infant, Child, and Youth Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service for Alfred Health at 1001 Nepean Highway in Moorabbin. By incorporating elements of home, we create safe environments that reduce hesitance and encourage open dialogue. Our collaboration with Alfred Health aims to soften the space between our youth and the health professionals dedicated to their care.

Alfred Health provides mental health services to children and young people experiencing a variety of health conditions and their families. Specialist family-based interventions address the following concerns:

  • Infant mental health
  • Complex developmental assessment in children and adolescents
  • Eating disorders
  • Co-occurring mental health and intellectual disability
  • Interventions to address mental health distress (including self-harm and/or suicidal thoughts), behavioural disturbance, trauma, and poor school attendance.
